During the 2006-2007 season the Hawaii Concert Society brought many of our community’s school students, and some of its music students into direct contact with some of the artists that we presented.
In September the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra musicians who appeared in our season as Chamber Music Hawaii gave educational performances at Waiakea, St. Joseph, and Kaumana Elementary schools. As always when visited by a group with diverse instruments, the young students were enthralled to get a close look at them and hear how they sound. In particular, Marcia Schweitzer’s bassoon was a big hit.
In November the Jacques Thibaud String Trio performed for and interacted with students at Kapiolani and De Silva Elementary schools. The students were captivated by both the music and the accents of the German musicians and had an unending number of questions for the Trio

In March recorder player Judith Linsenberg of Musica Pacifica, accompanied by harpsichordist Charles Sherman gave a recorder master class at the Pacific Academy of Music. A small group of local recorder enthusiasts attended and performed for and were instructed by Judith.
In April Copenhagen’s Trio Con Brio visited Kea’au High and Kamehameha Middle schools. Thestudents were spellbound by the Shostakovich Trio, which the musicians first spoke about and then performed in part.
This season’s educational programs reached well over 1,000 students in East Hawaii. Our artists are paid for these educational activities and we congratulate and thank our members, whose contributions made the activities possible.
